Helmdon Churchyard

The wall is a drystone wall with dressed stone on both sides and rubble between the stones without any cement. These walls are hundreds of years old and over time water enters the wall and washes out the rubble causing collapse.

The church building itself is covered by insurance but not the boundary wall.

I have been looking at the wall with Tom Hurst today and because of the walls state Tom will not give a quote, but charges £200 a day which I think is a good rate.

He will clear a 2m gap and see what we have, he will clear the wall at the far end of the gap to rebuild, effectively moving the gap along the wall. We do not know what the foundations are like until he starts. As Tom completes a section he will cap the wall. This is the issue with most of the wall having no capping, once the wall is stable the remainder of the wall will need capping.
